Weekly Update: 003

1webdesignTo be honest, I haven’t been all that productive but I do have a couple things that I am proud to have fully accomplished! First and foremost is a site that has been with me for quite some time – Poison Race. I originally had this site back in the early 2000s and it went through several layouts, hosts and even had its very own domain once but times changed and the site fell into the void. However, with some prompting from my buddies, I finally pulled it back together and decided to combine it with all of my current avatars/icons. While I still don’t think that I am all that great with icons, it’s definitely nice to see some evidence of where I used to be and where I have wound up now!

After all, that is what this blog is all about, right? Progress! (*•̀ᴗ•́*)و ̑̑

Poison Race: an icon/avatar collective

I finally got back into practicing Japanese! I know, long time coming and I have done1japanese terrible things by putting it off this long. However, I have started to use my textbooks a little more (I bring them to work and work on them on my lunch break!) and I managed to find some interesting apps on my new phone! I found a wonderful news app that not only is easy to practice reading but all the kanji (easy or hard) are all accompanied by furigana. I also found a new app to use to practice how quickly I recognize kana and this is where I am gaining the evidence that I really shouldn’t have put off practicing Japanese at all. I knew from my many years of learning French that without exposure, you very quickly lose your language skills. I hope i can learn from this and that I can continue to work on this until I am confident enough to start trying to talk to people or at least use my Japanese twitter account more frequently!

Back in Action

0randombabbleOkay, so, I have made several posts by now about how I am going to be more active this time. Let’s be real – this blog is literally called Adventures in Procrastination, and what says procrastination more than constantly putting off activity? All the same, I don’t think that is much of an excuse. I made this blog to ensure that I continue to motivate myself. I want to be able to have progress and be able to show off my work, and yet I find myself constantly distracted by inane subject matter.

I want that to change. In real life, I had a few upsetting months and I now find myself living alone for the first time. Now that it is just me and my dogs, I find that I have a lot more ability to focus than ever before. As such, I want that productivity. I want that creativity back. I’m back to exactly where I started when I was first making this blog.

Thinking to my past self and the numerous messages littered across this site, it is time to get back in the game and force myself to produce that desired change. ( •̀ᄇ• ́)ﻭ✧

1webdesignSo, first and foremost, I have finally created something in the world of web design that I have been wanting to make for years. A full and complete writing archive. Writing has always been my biggest passion in the world and I have been doing it on the internet since I was 13 years old. I started with fanfiction and, when I got more confident, I started posting original stuff. Although fanfiction still outweighs my original work by a massive margin, I enjoyed the entire journey. I am not releasing it to the public just yet because I want to buy a proper domain name for it because it is going to be a permanent site that I will be posting all of my future work. It’s my baby that has been coming for years and it deserves its own special place on the internet and in my network. Either way, it took me quite a while to collect all my writing from several different sites and I am happy to now finally have it all in one place. Such a relief; you have no idea! I will be super excited to release it to the public when the time comes and I hope that other people will enjoy my work as well (*•̀ᴗ•́*)و ̑̑

1readingI have this desire to start buying one book with every paycheck I get and so far, I haven’t been able to do that. Being an adult on my own, I’m still busy playing catch up with my bills before I can start that but in the mean time, I still have the books that I own that I still haven’t ever read or finished. So I want to start working on those. I have several novels and manga to read through that I simply haven’t caught up on because my book buying desire sometimes outweighs my ability to get around to actually reading them. I’m sure every single reader has had this happen at least once.

Right now, I am busy playing catch up with the manga that I have been following for quite some time. Namely:

  • Shokugeki no Souma
  • Haikyuu!!
  • Ao no Exorcist

Once I have caught up with those, I have a bunch of new manga that I have been recommended and need to read on my tablet. On the physical copy side, I have several novels that I want to officially read through that I have owned for years but have never actually gotten around to. Seems like these days, I now have some extra focus but none of the motivation.

1videogamesIn the world of video games, I have been wanting to play through more and more video games. I’m still bad at finishing games but I want to actually get through more and prove that I can wrap a damn game for once. Right now, I am currently working on Fire Emblem: Birthright. I am almost done – I have three more chapters to go! After I finish it, I want to replay it just so I can grind all the supports and get a better feel for all the characters (♥ω♥ ) ~♪ With my current rush play-through, I have not been giving the characters as much attention as I could be! Plus, with my lack of patience over weak characters, half of my team gets left by the roadside so I definitely want to follow up with them and finally see about getting all of the damn kids!

I’m pretty sure that’s all I have to cover for the moment because I have been an unproductive blob over the past few months. So let’s get this ball rolling and actually finally get this blog back to the active status that I always dreamed it to be!

Weekly Update: 002

0randombabbleWow, I fell off the earth there, huh? So much for weekly updates two months later. Ahh, well. I am back now and that’s what matters, right? I have a good reason for my absence though! I recently got a new puppy named Mochi (❍ᴥ❍ʋ) and puppies, much like toddlers, require constant supervision. So I haven’t been able to get on the computer because I’ve been incapable of sitting down for longer than five seconds before she tries to eat something. At four months old now, she isn’t as bad but she’s still a bit of a tiny terror. She’s cute, though. Very cute. I love her to bits.

Anyway, her cuteness aside, I have been extremely unmotivated and I hate it. I feel like I am constantly tired and worn and it takes so much effort to even sit up and do anything other than work, walk dogs and eat. As such, I don’t have that much to report for this week but I need to do something otherwise I feel like I am gonna shrivel up.

1japaneseIn the world of my studying, I have actually gotten back into it. I only study once a week, for an hour, but that’s still better than the three month break I took where I wasn’t learning anything. Currently, I am busy reviewing and trying to perfect what I have already learned. I’ve taught myself how to introduce myself and others properly and I can now proudly boast that I can count from 1-100 in Japanese! Naturally, it requires moments of pause between numbers and I can’t speed through it like in English and French but that’s of little concern. the fact of the matter is that I can do it and I couldn’t before. Numbers are my absolute weakness when it comes to Japanese and it’s definitely going to have to be a subject I practice a little more! I do hope that I can continue to improve, though. I really would love to be fluent in it one day.

1videogamesI have actually been playing more video games lately and, for me, that means at least a couple times a week. I can happily say I have finished Tales of Zestiria (although not 100% trophy completion) and have recently been playing a ton of Fire Emblem: Birthright. I still haven’t played the other parts yet but I hope to in the future! I’ve been trying to improve on shooting games as well, playing a little more Destiny here and there and I finally installed The Evil Within so hopefully I can finally get past the damn tutorial fight (。•́︿•̀。) Yeah. I am that bad at shooter games. I wasn’t being cute about it. I’ve started replaying Tales of Xillia 2 with my roommate again and we are officially past where we were the first time. I forgot how much I love these damn characters, man. Ludger is growing on me as well this playthrough. I was neutral about him before but, man, he’s weirdly charming in his quiet nature. Damn Tales series and their onslaught of fabulous characters.

1readingI haven’t been reading as much as I want to but! I am happy to announce that I am very nearly almost caught up with One Piece. This is a fucking feat, considering not only how long this series is but how often it still updates and how many times I have put it down and given up for a while. I’m only about 60 chapters away from being caught up with it and I am pretty darn excited about that! Other than that, I got a lovely second hand copy of the Hobbit for Christmas that I am still hoping to crack open and I still want to work toward my goal of reading all my current manga collection.

And, honestly, I think that about covers things worth mentioning! I really haven’t been doing much other than self loathing over my lack of activity lately. Hopefully now that I am not a full time puppy babysitter, I can actively work on completing more things!

Weekly Update: 001

0randombabbleWell, here I am! A week later, as promised to myself and I have honestly no idea where to even start this post. I had such an unproductive week that trying to collect enough things I did to make a half decent post is genuinely difficult. I guess this is good for me in the long run, though. If I keep on this update-once-a-week pace, it will force me to be a little more productive! Hopefully then, I can simply keep the ball rolling. ╭( ・ㅂ・)و

1webdesignIn the world of web design, I have had a quiet week. I barely got on the computer because of some technical difficulties (and sheer laziness) but I did manage to accomplish a few things I set out to do!

  • DD Challenge: wrote the Haikyuu!! page; trashed the Team idea
  • Exported/Backed up all MySQL files
  • Exported/Backed up all FTP files

I guess it’s not really much in the grand scheme of everything that needs to get done but at least I’ve managed a big chunk of the moving process. Now I just need to upload everything to the new host, do some spring cleaning in my new FTP and I will be ready to go!

1videogamesI have recently been playing a ton of Tales of Zestiria with my roommate and let me just get this out of the way by saying I have the biggest, dorkiest crush on Sorey. Bright and smiley? Intelligent? History dork? Terrible cook? Sorey is my soulmate.

Anyway, geek out aside, I am really enjoying Zestiria so far! I love the more historical/political based storyline rather than having a sense of morality and personal responsibility be the main drive behind the story. There are a ton of functions the game has that I love (like everything they carried over from Xillia) and some that I cannot stand (F U IN-BATTLE CAMERA) but overall, it’s a great experience. I always play Tales games multiplayer with my roommate so unfortunately I can only play it whenever we are both home but having that set up really pushes me to complete games! I’m definitely looking forward to playing more and watching the history of this world unfold! (´∀`)♡

1readingI have a long term challenge that I have been contemplating doing for a couple years now. I have a rather large manga collection. I do read from it often but I have a habit of re-reading some of the same series over and over again while other ones go untouched. I realized late last year that some series I own, I haven’t read in over three years! To a bibliophile such as myself, this is simply unacceptable. I can’t handle the idea of not showing equal appreciation to all of my books. So I have set myself out a goal for 2016: By the end of this year, I am going to read through my entire manga collection, from A-Z. It may seem like a bit of a daunting task as I write this but I crank through manga so quickly and it’s so easy for me to get lost in the pages until I’ve burned through a whole series without even noticing!

So that is the challenge that I plan to start soon and hopefully by the time I am done, I will feel more accomplished and once again attached to the books that I adore so much (。’▽’。)♡

Well, I think that’s about it for this week. Kind of a boring post, I suppose, but hopefully next week will yield less excuses and more progress!

Wish me luck!

Goal Update: The Little Things

1webdesignA couple things to touch on with this new year. New host is happening so first of all, I am going to be able to go through all my websites and finally do a spring cleaning of sorts to figure out where I am truly at with my sites. I will be able to clear out old files, touch up old ones and finally see about getting rid of some dead links! ( •̀ᄇ• ́)ﻭ✧

Tributes/OPS: This will be ample time to finally see about completing these website challenges that I have set out for myself! I need to complete Hinata Shouyo and Kasamatsu Yukio/Kise Ryouta websites by June 30, 2016 and I need to complete Kakeru Manabe by March 1, 2016. I have discussed with Neo a bi-weekly check in where we will be able to bounce ideas off each other, get opinions, edit some stuff and see where we are both at in our web designing. We are both hoping that by doing so, we will be able to progress much more smoothly! I’m really excited to do it; Neo has been such a bundle of encouragement and inspiration for me and I am really excited to finally be doing a website project with her! ٩(♡ε♡ )۶

Quirks: In network matters, I will need to see about asking Rems (my host) to install Enthusiast for me because I have quite literally no idea how to do it and I am terrified of messing it up! Once I do that, I can at long last see about adopting Roxas from Raine and finally bring him into my collective after 9823649138 years of neglected promises. Seriously, Raine, if you’re reading this, I am so freaking sorry. (。•́︿•̀。) On that note, I need to back up all mySQL files because I don’t think I’ve done that in about a year… whoops.

Other: I finally set up my domain halcyonelixir.org to the WordPress blog that I started and so I officially have that off the ground. Now I just need to see about doing more with it! I’m mainly excited to write but that’s an entirely different subject matter, haha.

I have also been wanting to buy a domain for this blog because, let’s face it, having a personal domain for something just feels better when browsing through websites! However, I have made myself a personal goal since I have been so neglectful with this blog. If I can manage to do a weekly post for a full “month” (ie, 4 weeks in a row), I am allowed to go ahead and buy myself a domain for this site! (ノ^ヮ^)ノ*:・゚✧

Wish me luck!
